Safe Spaces

Safe Space
Wāhi Haumaru

We’re excited to announce our partnership with Safe Space Alliance! This NZ organisation has now gone global and aims to help people identify, navigate, and create safe spaces for the LGBTTQIA+ community worldwide.

SSA aims to help people identify, navigate, and create safe spaces for the LGBTQIA+ community. A safe space is a space where the LGBTQIA+ community can freely express themselves without fear. It is a space that does not tolerate violence, bullying, or hate speech towards the LGBTQIA+ community.

Recent studies showed that LGBTQIA+ people were 75% more likely to report being socially excluded. Rainbow participants were more likely to report moderate or severe anxiety, moderate or severe depression, high or very high levels of psychological distress. The LGBTQIA+ Community have almost all the same rights as everyone else but having rights doesn’t necessarily mean or guarantee acceptance. There will be individuals and groups out there who, regardless of what the law says, do not accept the LGBTQI+ community for various reasons.
